Frequently Asked Questions
Do you work with both Deaf and hearing people?
Yes. We work with Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing people who want mentoring, guidance, or support from a Deaf perspective. This includes interpreters, performers, and professionals who want to strengthen communication, confidence, and connection with the Deaf community.
Do you mentor hearing people?
Yes. We support hearing people who want to build confidence, improve communication, and gain a better understanding of Deaf culture and lived experience.
Do you teach Visual Vernacular (VV)?
Yes. Ivan teaches Visual Vernacular for people who already sign. The focus is on movement, expression, clarity, and storytelling to create bold and visually powerful communication.
What is Visual Vernacular (VV)?
Visual Vernacular (VV) is a visual form of storytelling and performance that uses movement, expression, and visual imagery to bring stories to life.
It is a highly creative and expressive art form within Deaf culture that focuses on visual communication rather than spoken or written language.
Does Ivan offer workshops?
Workshops are coming soon. Ivan is currently developing Visual Vernacular (VV) workshops focused on storytelling, performance, and creative expression through movement, emotion, and visual imagery.
These workshops are open to Deaf community members, Auslan users, and interpreters who want to explore VV as a visual art form. For interpreters, VV is not about performing on stage, but about strengthening visual understanding to support clearer and more natural Auslan interpretation.
Do you offer Auslan song translation or sign singing?
Yes. Ivan & Nicole offer sign singing and English-to-Auslan translation for performances, events, creative projects, and community content.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes. Most sessions are available online, so you can join from anywhere.
Do you offer in-person sessions?
Yes, sometimes depending on location and availability.
Do you work with interpreters and professionals?
Yes. We support interpreters and professionals who want to strengthen their connection to the Deaf community, improve visual communication, and gain guidance from lived Deaf experience.
Do you work with children?
Yes. We support young people who are ready for mentoring in communication, confidence, and personal growth. While we don’t teach beginner Auslan, we can recommend resources or programs for learning signing skills.
