Ivan’s journey

As a third-generation Deaf person, Ivan has always grown up surrounded by rich expression, strong community, and powerful storytelling through hands.

With Deaf parents, Deaf grandparents, now Coda and Deaf children of his own, Auslan is deeply part of who he is. It is more than language—it is identity, culture, family, and legacy passed through generations.

From a young age, Ivan was known for his vivid imagination and storytelling. Family would gather to watch him bring stories and characters to life in Auslan, using expression, movement, emotion, and powerful visual detail. What started as a natural gift in childhood has grown into a lifelong passion.

Growing up Deaf in a hearing world has also come with challenges. For Ivan, being Deaf has never been a disability. The real challenge has always been living in a world that often does not understand Deaf culture or communicate in his language.

Today, Ivan continues that passion through his work as a Visual Vernacular artist, mentor, speaker, and community leader. His storytelling is not only about performance, but about connection—bringing people into the story, helping them feel emotion, and sharing the beauty and depth of Deaf culture.

These experiences have shaped his passion for helping others. Ivan is deeply committed to supporting Deaf people, families, and those learning Auslan to build confidence, strengthen identity, and improve communication.

Through mentoring, coaching, speaking, storytelling, and honest real conversations, he creates spaces where people feel seen, empowered, and connected. His goal is to help others reconnect with their confidence, goals, and sense of belonging—whether they are exploring Deaf culture, learning Auslan, or navigating life’s challenges.

Everything Ivan does comes from lived experience, heart, and a genuine passion for uplifting the community.
